House Extension – Disabled Adaptation In Bishop's Stortford

At Wells Construction Ltd, we’re currently working on a house extension project in Bishop's Stortford that’s focused on improving accessibility and transforming how the space works for the homeowner. This disabled adaptation is designed to support independent living, whilst still feeling like a comfortable, welcoming home. Although the project is still in its early stages, the transformation is already taking shape.

Laying The Foundations For A Life-Changing Extension

Right now, we’re in the foundational phase of the build. The groundwork has been completed, and we’re preparing for the structural elements that will soon follow. This stage is all about precision - making sure everything is level, secure and built to last. 

For this project, it’s especially important that the new space connects seamlessly with the existing home, so we’ve paid close attention to layout and access as we prepare the base for the extension.

This adaptation is more than just an extra room, it’s a full reconfiguration of the ground floor, designed to provide long-term comfort and freedom of movement.

Creating A Fully Accessible Living Space

The extension includes several key features that will make a real difference to the client's daily life. One of the most important is a brand-new wet room, offering easy access and eliminating barriers that are often found in standard bathrooms. Wet rooms are a fantastic solution for accessibility needs and offer a practical alternative to traditional showers and bathroom layouts. 

In addition to the wet room, we’re building a spacious ground-floor bedroom, meaning that the homeowner will no longer need to navigate stairs. This area is designed with ease of access in mind - wide doorways, smooth transitions between floor levels and space for mobility aids.

We're also extending the main living area, opening it up to provide a more accessible, usable layout. This larger space will offer better circulation, more comfort and allow the client to move freely and independently throughout the ground floor.
