Wells Construction Ltd were appointed to carry out a full garage conversion at a residential property in Hatfield Heath, Hertfordshire. What began as a standard detached garage was transformed into a high-quality, fully habitable living space, alongside a beautifully fitted utility room.
The project showcases the full range of skills the Wells Construction team bring to every job, from structural and groundwork through to plastering, flooring, electrics and finishing.
The starting point for this project was a traditional single garage with bare brick walls, exposed roof timbers, a concrete floor and a standard garage door opening. From this raw shell, the Wells Construction team carried out a complete transformation, resulting in a generously proportioned, light-filled room that feels entirely at home alongside the main property.
The finished interior is a superb example of what a well-executed garage conversion can achieve. The walls were fully plastered and decorated in a warm tone, giving the space a calm, contemporary feel. A full grid of recessed LED downlights was installed throughout the ceiling, flooding the room with even, clean light. An air conditioning and heating cassette unit was also fitted to the ceiling, making the space comfortable year-round regardless of the season.
The floor is one of the standout features of the conversion. A wood-effect LVT in a warm oak tone was laid throughout in a full herringbone pattern, a detail that gives the room a real sense of quality and character. Internal oak doors connect the converted space directly to the main house, so that the two areas flow seamlessly together.
The external changes to the building are equally striking. The garage door opening was closed in and replaced with a set of elegant white French doors with traditional glazing bars, approached via a set of newly built brick steps.
Two new sash-style windows were fitted to the side elevation, flooding the interior with natural light. The exterior brickwork was painted white with black detailing to the plinth, fascia and guttering, giving the building a smart, cohesive finish that ties in beautifully with the existing property.
Alongside the main conversion, the team also created a dedicated utility room within the structure. Finished with tongue-and-groove wall panelling in a soft dusky pink, a marble-effect quartz worktop, inset sink, dark navy base unit, open shelving and a traditional radiator, this is a practical and characterful space that adds real value to the home.
